vision quest - night 1 - Apocalypse
Wednesday - Breakfast was my last meal until Sunday. I volunteered at the food hub and then made my way up to the sacred iron tree with the last of my belongings. I was all set and prepared for the 4 nights. It was sunny and warm - felt like a welcome gift after so much rain and storminess. I established sacred space and called in the four directions. I felt hungry right away. I felt tired and allowed myself to lie down and rest.
There was wind and a gentle rain on and off all night. I slept ok. I was dry and warm. My right hip and lower back hurt.
I”m not sure what time it was when I had a dream - maybe 2 or 3 - the moon was obscured by clouds.
I was in a basement - dark, moist cement. I had a dog on a leash. There was equipment and some kind of divide in the middle of the space and I heard a group of people approaching. I went to the left side and they were approaching on the right side. We came into contact. I said something like, “Are you coming in peace?” with a nervous laugh. There were about five or six of them. A woman with a black dog started to approach me. She was strong in stature and had, I think, a small afro. She started to approach and I said, “Back off.” She started approaching again and I said “You aren’t hearing me or you aren’t listening. I said back off.” I met eyes with her dog and he had kind eyes. I ran away from them. I remember having to traverse some cement blocks.
When I woke up and asked what it was about. The message I got was a question, “Do you think they were safe?” I said yes. Like looking at the dream from outside. T”hey are safe. It is safe to go with them. That will happen one day.”
This dream made me tear up with fear because it was apocalyptic. It made me feel like I should make my survival kit. While my nightmare may have been quote unquote just a dream, the world is a nightmare right now. What is a nightmare living versus a nightmare when we are asleep? The lines can blur and an apocalypse doesn’t seem like science fiction anymore. I wanted to deny the feelings but I didn’t. I went outside under the moon. I stood beneath the ironwood tree’s long sweeping branch and kissed her needles. I held them to my cheek. I felt love for her and all of the planet.
